Goondiwindi Cotton hosts over 2,500 visitors annually on their award winning Farm and Town Tour. In May, the tour is set to reach new heights with the installation of an imaginative education precinct and upgrade to 'Alcheringa' shed for the launch of Discover Farming.
The return of the highly successful Discover Farming Festival in Goondiwindi and Region is one for the calendar. The month long event aims to recognise agricultural excellence in the region alongside the promotion of an emerging agri-tourism sector showcasing a range of local producers with on farm tours and food related events in town.
Last year, Goondiwindi Cotton participated as a gold sponsor supporting the development of the festival in it's first year and also created it's signature event 'Gather' inviting media, special guests and retail distributors to a showcase of produce from the region.
This year, Goondiwindi Cotton has a new mission and it's focused on getting an important message to locals and visitors about innovation and the use of best practice farming techniques and technology in our region to better educate people.
Sam Coulton, Founder of GC Farm & Town Tours says; 'Now more than ever, educating and connecting locals and visitors with the right information about sustainable farming practices and water usage is paramount to our future'.
For over 10years Goondiwindi Cotton's Farm and Town Tour has evolved. It's success today can be attributed to consistency and hard work from a passionate and dedicated office team. In the early days, booking's fluctuated making a daily routine difficult for staff and administration. Now days, booking's run at over 90% occupancy during peak season in Autumn, Winter and Spring.
Sam says, 'We're seeing more and more young families, looking for on farm experiences where they can touch, see and smell the runnings of an authentic operation. It's amazing to watch kids connect with the land and lucky for us, it's on their back door step'.
In line with Discover Farming, Goondiwindi Cotton has taken the opportunity to enhance their guided tour and build on the infrastructure that exists today at their property located 10minutes from the town centre. A new wall mural including 'How to make a pair of Jeans', an illustrated map of Australia's water eco system and the restoration of an original John Deer two-row cotton picker are on display for visitors to see and touch.
Additionally, the tour takes in a short overview of the town discussing some of the town's unique architecture, the famous horse we all know and love and of course, the waterpark and Namoi Gin.
To celebrate Discover Farming, Goondiwindi Cotton is introducing an express 'Twilight Tour' on Friday 17th May from 5.30 - 7.30pm.
The tour is aimed at locals and encourages everyone to share in Goondiwindi's premier tourism experience. Enjoy a glass of champagne, an evening with friends, learn about the region and site Goondiwindi Cotton’s latest project at Alcheringa Shed.
