Southern Queensland Landscapes recently featured Goondiwindi Cotton in an article highlighting their innovative approach to tackling fast fashion waste. The article discusses a trial where shredded cotton textiles, including old Sheridan sheets and hi-vis clothing, are spread over cotton crops as a form of fertiliser. This practice aims to improve soil health by enhancing moisture retention, carbon capture, and microbial activity, while also diverting textile waste from landfills. The trial is expected to conclude in early to mid-2022, with the potential to influence sustainable practices across multiple sectors.
