Goondiwindi Based Artist, Globally Recognised

Painter, creative, and storyteller—Sophie Jarrold is a visual artist based in rural Queensland whose work beautifully reflects the quiet charm of regional life. Through thoughtful brushwork and a soft, earthy palette, Sophie captures the landscapes, light, and everyday moments that often go unnoticed, yet are deeply felt.

Her pieces are grounded in emotion and inspired by the natural world—offering a sense of calm, connection, and nostalgia. Much like our collections, Sophie’s art is rooted in the land and crafted with care. It speaks to a slower pace, a mindful rhythm, and a deep appreciation for simplicity and beauty in the everyday.

We’re proud to feature Sophie as part of the Goondiwindi Cotton community—celebrating the creativity and connection that flows through regional life.

Sophie, tell us a little about yourself?

I grew up in a little town called Moriac in south west Victoria, moved to the area about 5 years ago and fell in love with the landscape straight away.
I’ve loved painting ever since I can remember. I studied art history at school, but didn’t pick up the brushes again until about 3 years ago and I've been lucky enough to go full time a year ago. I’m also a new mum to our beautiful 5 month old, Charlotte!

Your artwork captures the ever changing landscapes of rural Australia, tell us about your passion for art?

I think my recent passion for art came from the beautiful and serene colours around me and my want to recreate them. I paint what I love to look at and what calms me. The bright sunsets, the stormy skies, the golden crops, fluffy fields of cotton - we live in such a beautiful area and drawing inspiration from it is effortless. A walk at golden hour can turn into 3 or 4 paintings!

How would you describe your style?

Elevated, classic, timeless, comfortable.

Tell us what you love about the Goondiwindi community?

The Goondiwindi community has been such a wonderful support. There have been so many people who without their advice and encouragement I wouldn’t have had the courage to pursue my art and I’m so grateful for that.

Tell us, why do you love what you are wearing from Goondiwindi Cotton?

It’s effortless, comfy style, what’s not to love!
