We’re thrilled to welcome author, cook and storyteller Sophie Hansen,
the voice behind Local is Lovely, to our Journal this week.
Sophie shares her idea of a perfect Saturday in her hometown of Orange, NSW. Think coffee with friends at a sunny local café, a morning at the markets and a gallery browse before heading home to the farm. The day finishes the best way possible, with good food, sundowners and time shared with family and friends.
"My first stop on my perfect Saturday morning will be coffee at @billsbeans_eastorange . You always bump into a friend at Bills which is lovely, today it's Fiona Schofield so we'll sit in the sun and have one or two flat whites, and share their excellent smoked salmon bagel.
Next we’ll pop next door to the @eastorangeproducersmarket and grab some fruit, veggies, fresh bread and a few other treats to cook with over the weekend. This little market is on every week which is fantastic, and if it’s the second Saturday of the month, we’ll also hit up the fabulous @orangefarmersmarket for a bigger shop.
By now @thecornerstoregallery will be open, so we’ll stroll down the block to have a look at the latest exhibition, and finish our coffee browsing and chatting in this sunny, friendly space.
All of this and the day has just begun! I’ll head home now and potter around the farm, do a few jobs with Tim and the kids and then spend an hour or so making something easy, fresh and tasty with our market spoils to put on a ‘chatter platter’ and take up the hill behind our house to share with friends over sundowners that stretch into an early dinner."
